Update on Paragard IUD as of April 2024: The class action Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) related to Paragard is gradually expanding as it steps into its sixth year. Over the past month, an additional 55 cases were incorporated into the MDL, raising the total case count to 2,615.
A recent investigation by Spotlight on America has uncovered that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had previously raised concerns with Cooper Surgical, the manufacturer of Paragard IUD. The FDA’s concerns were about the potential for the IUD to break during removal.
These issues were identified during an inspection of one of Cooper Surgicals’ Paragard IUD production facilities. Despite this, it appears that Cooper Surgical did not take any corrective action in response to the FDA’s warning. The hope remains that Teva will offer reasonable settlement amounts before the first bellwether trial.
